Abstract
"News & Issues" piece on the intrigue surrounding an arson on Sept. 12 at the American Legion hall in Sanford. Rose Marie Godin, 58, a member of the Legion's auxiliary, has been arrested on arson charges in connection with the fire that caused an estimated $100,000 damage to the hall. Godin said she is being falsely accused of setting the fire in retaliation for blowing the whistle on illegal gambling at the hall. Godin claims former post commander Robert Mitchell, a career state trooper who retired in 1976, controls the machines at the hall, which was not among the half-dozen social clubs in York County raided by state police in June.
