Abstract

"Capitolism" piece on one of the more surprising statistics in the Maine Center for Economic Policy's Labor Day report: during the period from 1978 to 1989, Maine produced new jobs at a rate 50 percent higher than the nation as a whole, but during the boom of the 1990s, Maine job growth lagged 60 percent behind the rest of the country.
