Abstract
"News & Issues" piece on a $4 million agreement, signed Nov. 2, that protects the last major "missing link" of the Appalachian Trail. The 598 acres being conveyed to the Department of Conservation is the entire southeast quadrant of the Saddleback Mountain resort property. The involvement of political power brokers George Mitchell and Severin Beliveau is credited with breaking the impasse between the National Park Service and the Breen family, owners of the Saddleback Mountain resort.
