Abstract
"Cover Story" piece on the College of the Atlantic (COA) in Bar Harbor, a small, experimental campus that offers just one degree: a bachelor's in human ecology. COA, now 31 years old, has but 1,052 graduates. But slowly, a discernible network of alums, from among the 300 now living in Maine, is surfacing in the state's environmental, nonprofit and political communities. Currently, COA has 252 full-time students, up from 35 its first year. An average of one-fourth of the student body is generally from Maine. At $25,704 per year for tuition, room and board, COA's is priced near the middle of all Maine's colleges and universities. With biographical sketches of several alumni now working in Maine.
