Abstract
"News" piece on Saddleback Ski Area owner Donald Breen who is seeking a buyer for his 8,3000-acre property, and has tried unsuccessfully to get the National Park Service to help him with taxes in the aftermath of his land sale to protect the Appalachian Trail. Congress authorized the park service to pay Breen $4 million for the purchase of 587 acres, and allowed Breen to characterize another 860 acres as a donation. Breen has hired Sotheby's International Realty to sell his Saddleback holdings for $12 million, and Sotheby's has renamed the property Saddleback Lake and Mountain Preserve, hoping to market it as an "estate," because the ski facilities are outdated and would require a major investment to bring it up to today's standards.
