Abstract
"News" piece on a planned campaign by the Maine Christian Civic League to repeal Bangor's gay rights ordinance, which may have unwittingly mobilized gay rights activists in Maine's 2nd Congressional District Democratic primary. Within days of the announcement, former state senator Sean Faircloth of Bangor was seeking an endorsement from the Maine Lesbian and Gay Political Alliance. Four candidates in the primary contest, including Faircloth and state Sens. Susan Longley of Liberty, Mike Michaud of Millinocket, and John Nutting of Leeds, all have voted in favor of a law to protect the civil rights of gays.
