Abstract

"News" piece on Alaska's commercial fishing fleet, which is pushing for trade barriers against Chile's massive exports of cheap farmed salmon. Despite being part of an industry that is reeling from the lowest prices in a decade, Maine's salmon farmers have not yet weighed in on the controversy. In 1994, Chile exported 12,889 metric tons of Atlantic salmon filets, according to Alaskans, and by 2000, those exports had grown to 88,016 metric tons.
