Abstract

"Cover Story" piece on Professor Welch Everman's English 229 class at the University of Maine at Orono: "Topics of Literature: The Fiction of Stephen King." Everman, and the scattering of other academics who assess King's work based on the criteria of serious literary criticism, believe they are responsible for rescuing King from intellectual scoffers who have dismissed him as a popular, and therefore lowbrow, author. With analyses of some of King's best known works and evaluations of King as a writer by several who study his works and style.
