Abstract
Black Lake in Deboullie Township has remote pond status, but a road cuts across public land to the lake's eastern shore. The road allows motorboats to use the lake, which raises the question of how well the remote pond designation is working. Ponds can be designated by the Maine Land Use Regulation Commission as remote if they have significant fisheries for trout or salmon and limited vehicle access. LURC has no staff to administer compliance with the designation, and other state agencies ignore the designation. Details.
