Abstract
Profile of Chuck Harris, 47, who rode the logs down the Kennebec River and the West Branch of the Penobscot River until the river drives ended in 1976. Harris has restored the boom house at Ambajejus Lake, and created a museum that pays homage to the rivermen of northern Maine. Harris discusses life on the drives, and his efforts in restoring the boom house and collecting the tools of the river driver's trade. Related article on Millinocket, which is bracing for another set of layoffs at the Great Northern paper mill. Town officials and residents are trying to promote the area as a recreation center.
