Abstract

Jamie Sayen, editor of the Northern Forest Forum, and Rudy Engholm, head of the New England wing of the Environmental Air Force, have proposed creating a 5-million-acre Thoreau Regional Wilderness Reserve in the greater Baxter State Park area. The 23-member Northern Forest Alliance, to which Sayen belongs, is questioning the proposal, since it and its members previously agreed to scale back their previous plans for a designated wilderness in order to focus on ten areas in the state identified as needing protection.
