Abstract

Bryant Stove Works of Thorndike, one of the state's best-known antique stove refurbishers, on July 15 ceased restoring old stoves because the National Council on Compensation Insurance reclassified the operation as a manufacturer, resulting in a $7,000 increase in the company's annual injured workers' insurance premiums. Owners Bea and Joe Bryant appealed the classification to the Maine Classification and Rules Appeals Board and lost.
