Abstract

The Maine Chapter of the New England Coast Conservation Association in January will ask the state Legislature to restrict commercial gillnetting in all estuaries and state inshore waters out to three miles. The group last year successfully led an effort to restrict gillnetting in the Androscoggin, Kennebec and Saco estuaries. The measure is designed to further protect the striped bass, a game fish that has recovered from near-extinction along the East Coast. Details.
