Abstract

ECO 2000, a 3-year-old consortium of six school districts in northern Aroostook County, has focused on economic rather thatn educational cooperation, and has achieved an estimated $300,000 in avoided costs by consolidating purchasing, grant-writing and staff development. The Casco Bay Educational Alliance is more than 2 years old, but has yet to achieve any substantial cooperative action or cost savings. Elaine Roberts of the Maine Center for Educational Services in Auburn has been hired as director of CBEA, and last week she led around 100 representatives from CBEA schools in a two-day visioning process.
