Abstract
Avian Farms of Waterville, founded in 1985 with five employees, now employs more than 250 people in Maine and another 250 at facilities in Georgia and Texas. The company secured a $25 million deal with China in 1988, and this year announced a $15 million partnership in the Ukraine. The company, which uses a variety of genetic engineering techniques to grow a better chicken, announced in September that it would spend from $15 million to $18 million on new production facilities.
