Bottom image: Left to right- Janet Johnson, June McKenzie, Wells Staley-Mays reading the names of the nearly 200 victims from the S.S. Portland disaster (27 November 1898), during a memorial service near the Abyssinian Church. 19 parishioners from the church were aboard the S.S. Portland.

The Abyssinian Church, built in 1828, is Maine's oldest African-American church building, and the third oldest in the United States.
