Description
Views of the diner Charley and Mark on The Square, 23 Monument Square.
The popular downtown Portland luncheonette opened on 6 November 1952 (as "Charley's on The Square"), and the photographs accompanied an article commemorating their 25th year in business. Owner Charley Chorney said the name "On the Square" was a play on words, for the diner's Monument Square address and their honest "fair-and-square" business.
