Description
Full exterior view of the Seamen's Club Restaurant, 375 Fore Street, from southeast. The tavern (later known as Bull Feeney's) was located in the Charles Q. Clapp Block, built in 1866.
During World War II (1942) the building was acquired by the Portland Seamen's Friend Society (former Seamen's Bethel), and became the Seamen's Club for Merchant Seamen and Enlisted Men. The Society's history dates back to a fund left by Captain Joseph How in 1870 to provide assistance to indigent mariners.
Photo published in the Maine Sunday Telegram, on 17 December 1978
