Abstract

Douglas Malcolm, 40, of Portland, developed an interest in progressive causes after getting an inheritance five years ago. Malcolm helped start MaineShare, an alternative to the United Way, and recently started the foundation Maine Initiatives, a Fund for Change, which is now accepting applications for the $210,000 it plans to give away this year.
