Abstract

Moses Sebunya, vice president of the Portland chapter of the National Association NAACP) for the Advancement of Colored People, said he has received complaints from people who have applied for jobs at Maine Medical Center (MMC) that they had been turned down because they were black. He called the hospital's affirmative action program ineffective. The NAACP will meet with MMC officials on Tuesday to discuss the charges. MMC said that 2.7 percent of its employees are minorities, while just 1.9 percent of Cumberland County residents are minorities. Details.
