Abstract

"City" piece on John Jay Fignar, 47, of Portland, who was diagnosed with insulin-dependent diabetes at age seven. Fignar needs expensive drugs to treat his congestive heart failure, neuropathy and retinopathy, and is losing his Medicaid coverage. James Smith, 40, of Portland, has AIDS, and also saw his Medicaid coverage terminated. State representative J. Elizabeth Mitchell of Portland said people are being cut off from Medicaid without much thought.
