Abstract

"Politics and Other Mistakes" piece on Maine Friends of Animals, a group organized by former Republican state representative Robert Fisk of Falmouth, which hopes to force a referendum designed to outlaw leghold traps; and former U.S. representative Jim Longley's criticism of his own Republican party for not strongly opposing a bill, passed in the Maine Legislature but vetoed by Gov. Angus King, that would have taxed Social Security benefits in order to fund a tax cut for retirees on public pension plans.
