Abstract
"Cover Story" piece on problems at the Portland International Jetport. Even though 1999 was a record-breaking year for the Jetport, as it handled 1,335,836 passengers, another 800,000 Mainers snubbed the airport to fly out of Boston's Logan Airport or Manchester, N.H. Some of the problems associated with the Jetport and cited by travelers include sky-high prices, inadequate parking space and too few flight options. With a comparison between the Jetport, which offers eight carriers and 25 departures daily, and the Columbia (S.C.) Metropolitan Airport, which had 300,000 fewer passengers in 1999 but offers 12 carriers and 56 departures daily.
