Abstract
"City" piece on Virginia's Place, a new shelter for single mothers in Portland operated by My Choice, a nonprofit agency that provides services to single mothers. The shelter, which has four apartments, was named for Virginia Boyles, the director of My Choice. The building was purchased and renovated with a $110,000 grant from the Libra Foundation, $88,000 from the Maine State Housing Authority and $20,000 in donated building materials. The rest was covered by $200,000 in loans and an auction that raised $3,000.
