Abstract
"Cover Story" piece on the Preble Street Resource Center, a nonprofit facility that offers meals and other services to Portland's homeless, which is providing a microphone and a stage for homeless poets and performers. A large lounge that serves as a waiting room by day for those seeking social services has been transformed on two occasions this year into something like a nightclub where people sing, read poetry, bang drums and make short speeches. With special focus on Weston A. Hurd Jr., Gary and Tara Cobb, and others.
