Abstract
"City" piece on tensions between students at Portland's Deering High School and neighborhood residents. According to area resident John Leeke, students have been dealing and using illegal drugs, trespassing , damaging property, obstructing public ways, littering and parking illegally while socializing on his and other nearby streets before classes. Last month, the city agreed to create unrestricted parking for students in the area near Deering High's athletic field, where there are no houses. And on Jan. 1, the city will turn at least one problem area into a one-hour-only parking zone, making it less attractive to students.
