Abstract
"City" piece on a proposal to create affordable housing on a 15-acre parcel of wooded land in Portland's North Deering neighborhood. The $6.8 million project, to be called Yale Court, is being developed by Mike Payson, a partner in Westcott and Payson, a real-estate development firm in Portland. Yale Court will consist of nine buildings with a total of 45 units, 30 of which would be earmarked as affordable housing. Neighbors are concerned that the project will change the character of their neighborhood and want the developer to build a separate access road. But at an estimated cost of $390,000, Payson said such a plan is probably not financially feasible.
