Abstract

"City" piece on Nate Nickerson, Portland's public health director, who is initiating a fatal drug overdose prevention program that will be run out of his office. So far this year, there have been 23 fatal overdose deaths in Portland. Nickerson attributes the increase to the diversion of prescribed opiates like OxyContin and methadone.
