Abstract

Maine Senate President Jeff Butland has sponsored legislation that would exempt the Maine Turnpike from the 1991 state Sensible Transportation Act. Butland wants to see the turnpike widened and says the environmental consequences of doing so are minimal. Leaders of the successful 1991 anti-widening drive were quick to condemn the bill.
