Abstract

Maine Department of Transportation Commissioner John Melrose says mid-summer 1996 is the earliest expected date for the resumption of passenger rail service between Portland and Boston. The Maine Legislature is expected to vote later this month on the creation of a state passenger rail authority, a necessary step in the return of service. Federal funding for the new rail service will be eliminated on October 1.
