Abstract

"The Talk of Maine" piece on Maine in the next decade. Ten years from now, the leading edge of the boomer generation, generally considered to be the 78-million Americans born between 1946 and 1964, will be reaching traditional retirement age. In a state that is within a day's drive of 90 million people and which already draws 43 million vacationers each year as well as 101,000 second-home owners, the possibilities of an influx of epic proportions are staggering. With comments by Leonard Kaye, director of the University of Maine Center on Aging in Orono, and Charles Colgan, a professor of public policy and management at the Muskie School of Public Service at the University of Southern Maine.
