Abstract

"North by East" piece on Ethel H. Dunn's recreation of a barn on her Kennebunk property that had originally been built around an elm tree and that appeared in "Ripley's Believe It or Not," before it was demolished in 1929. Dunn enlisted local carpenters to dismantle an old barn in Sanford, and a tree expert devised a weatherproof way to rebuild the barn around a sugar maple on the same spot.
