    Abstract

    "North by East" piece noting that Freeport retailer L. L. Bean has added an inch to the waistband in every size of women's pants and slacks. Waistlines were expanded in response to a dramatic increase in returns among women's pants due to size and to the realization that women are looking for a more comfortable fit to suit more active lifestyles. Men's pants already have relaxed-fit styles.
