Abstract

"I Remember" column recounting a crazy college feat performed in the late thirties while a student at Bates College. During a field trip for a geology class, author Jim Ferren separated from the group and attempted to crawl through a small hole that was reputed to come out the other side of the mountain. After suffering through a severe bout of claustrophobia, a failed flashlight, and slimy terrain covered with frogs, Ferren emerged on the trail at the other side of the mountain.
