Abstract

"North by East" piece on the University of Maine at Fort Kent, which is gaining new respect among Canadian students. Canadian students now make up more than 20 percent of the school's 750 students, and almost all of them are enrolled in the school's educational program. Charles M. Lyons, campus president, said the Canadian students already have their undergraduate degrees when they arrive at Fort Kent. An education degree, including student teaching, takes them only three semesters, qualifying them for a Maine teaching certificate which is also valid in the Maritime provinces.
