    Abstract

"North by East" piece on the extremely small chance that a devastating tsunami would hit Maine, according to Professor Dan Belknap at the University of Maine in Orono and Mark Swanson, a professor of geology at the University of Southern Maine. Although Maine is on a "passive" continental margin, small tsunami-like waves have been detected as far back as 1755, usually precipitated by small offshore earthquakes.
