Abstract

An article on the recently opened Hollywood Slots, owned by Pennsylvania-based Penn National Gaming, with details on how slot machines, winnings, and other elements of gaming are designed to draw in customers and ensure predictable earnings for the gambling company. More a casino than a racino, the slots are situated on Main Street within the legally allowable 2,000-foot radius of Bangor's Bass Park racetrack. Mainers wagered about a million dollars daily just after the slots opened.
