Abstract

A profile of Eric Hopkins, artist from North Haven. Interweaves Hopkins's biography with the evolution of his work, detailing how his interests and travels have influenced his glass blowing, "pyros" (works combining glasswork and painting), and the aerial-view paintings of Maine islands for which he is best known. Discusses Hopkins's fascination with the Pacific Northwest and long-deferred desire to live and work there. Also reflects on the importance of the dead in his life, both his own loved ones and the great departed he admires (such as Theodore Roosevelt), who Hopkins says often commune with him as he does his daily journaling "downloads."
