Abstract

"Focus on Greater Bangor" piece on Mid Coast Cruises, a division of Mid Coast Marine, owned by Roger Johnson and Chris Hamor, and founded last year to offer scheduled and chartered cruises on the Penobscot River from Bangor or Winterport aboard the "Roxy Leigh." Bangor officials are hoping it will help the city's waterfront development, though the idea has been tried and has failed before. This year the company broke even, but now needs to recoup some of its $170,000 investment in the boat, which needed much more work than the owners anticipated. With details on the boat's history, earlier attempts to sustain such cruises, and the possibility that Mile Kiernan, owner of Bath-based Long Reach Cruises, might expand to the Bangor market next summer.
