Abstract
"Focus on Lewiston-Auburn" piece on Richard Willing, 51, of Portland, who is leaving L/A Arts after being its director for nearly 15 years. The nonprofit is now struggling with "founder's syndrome," which can occur when an executive who has long defined the organization leaves. A transition committee has been formed to discuss potential changes to the organization's mission, although any changes will not occur until a new director is chosen. A $2 million capital campaign that started in 2001 has been halted, in part due to poor results. Willing's departure has proven challenging for the remaining staff of three.
