Abstract

The Hallowell-based Maine Women's Policy Center is preparing a release of "A Woman's Guide to Pay Equity." Progress on equity has been "glacial," according to Sarah Standiford, executive director of the center. In 2001, Maine strengthened its equal pay law, but despite increased attention to the problem, the Maine Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Standards only fields one or two complaints annually. In 2000, the University of Maine performed a self-audit and implemented pay equity adjustments the following year.
