Abstract

"Focus on Human Resources" piece by Sarah Standiford, executive director of the Maine Women's Lobby in Augusta, on a new law affecting businesses with 25 or more employees. Beginning Sept. 17, the Family Care Act will require those businesses to allow employees to use up to 40 hours of sick or vacation time to care for a child, parent, or spouse. A recent survey shows that most employers already offer this benefit to full-time workers.
