Abstract

"Focus on Greater Bangor" piece on Hallowell International LLC of Bangor, started by Duane Hallowell, who plans to produce a heat pump that is highly efficient even in cold weather. Last July, Brewer-based Nyle Special Products, Hallowell's former employer, proposed building a plant to manufacture its Cold Climate Heat Pump, plans that didn't materialize. The two companies disagree on ownership rights to the design. After disagreements with Nyle, patent owner David Shaw chose to partner with Hallowell, who he said is better financed. Hallowell says there is a huge demand for the pump, and he hopes his company will become one of the largest employers in the region.
