Abstract

"Focus on Building & Real Estate" piece on the acquisition of a larger competitor, H.E. Sargent of Stillwater, by Hampden-based construction company Sargent & Sargent, weeks before meeting a deadline for rebuilding the runways at Greenville Municipal Airport. The firms worked well together, although integration is still ongoing. H.E. Sargent, owned by Missouri-based Fru-Con Construction, was founded by Herb Sargent's still-living grandfather, Herbert E. Sargent. The younger Sargent worked there before starting Sargent & Sargent and hopes to provide his employees with the sense of stability that comes from working for a family-owned company. His workforce has expanded from 100 to about 450.
