Abstract

"Focus: Augusta-Waterville" piece on the annual Colby Economic Outlook, a short-term economic forecast of the national and Maine economies prepared by Colby College students enrolled in professor Michael Donihue's economic forecasting seminar. Donihue created the project 17 years ago as a way to prepare students for jobs in the real worlds of business and public policy. Caroline Theoharides, who graduated from Colby with a degree in economics in 2006, is grateful for the experience, saying it helped her land a job at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. The report is an important data source for analysts like John Davulis, chief economist of Central Maine Power Co. and a member of the state Consensus Forecasting Commission. With a selection of findings from the 2006 Colby Economic Outlook.
