Abstract

"Focus: Banking & Finance" piece on credit unions, which are increasingly using their community-focus to address Maine's small business community by offering commercial loans. Credit unions are pooling resources to form Credit Union Service Organizations (CUSOs) to overcome barriers to entering the commercial lending market. In 2005, the Maine Credit Union League partnered with five Maine credit unions to form Business Lending Solutions as a subsidiary of CUSO Mortgage Corp. With comments by John Reed, president and CEO of Maine Savings Credit Union in Hampden; Tucker Cole, president and CEO of Evergreen Credit Union; and Dave Rossignol, president and CEO of NorState Federal Credit Union in Madawaska.
