Abstract
"Focus on York County" piece on Doug Martin and his sister Lorna Martin Perry, co-founders of Echo Rowing in Eliot, along with Lorna's husband Ted Perry. Their father, Arthur Martin, who founded Martin Marine in Kittery, designed fiberglass kayaks in the 1950s that were precursors to the Alden Ocean Shell, credited with creating the recreational rowing industry in the U.S. Besides the Echo, Doug Martin has designed the Islander and the Ace. He has also successfully created a balsa wood violin. The company hopes to market its boats overseas, including a new account in Australia.
