Abstract

"Focus on Tourism & Hospitality" containing an interview with Patricia Eltman, director of the Maine Office of Tourism. Eltman, of South Portland, was a lobbyist with no background in tourism; but four months into the job, her ability to spark collaboration has quieted her opponents' reservations. A tourism subcabinet has been created, and Eltman is planning to create a pavilion to take to national travel shows. She has requested bids on the state's advertising contract, now controversially held by an out-of-state firm, and she wants to target niche markets like bird-watching and gardening.
