Abstract
"Focus on Environment" piece on how the clean-up of the Androscoggin and Kennebec rivers over the past decades has created a natural resource with the potential to attract anglers. Developments have included walking trails, a shad-fishing tournament, and a proposed whitewater park for kayakers. Groups have formed to promote, manage, and preserve access to the rivers. Phil Monahan, editor of "American Angler" magazine, says Maine has the best fly fishing in New England, and though it can't compete with the appeal of a river like Yellowstone, it could do more to promote the sport.
