Abstract

"Business Maine: Northern" piece reporting that the former owner of a defunct chemical factory in Orrington has petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to throw out a lower court ruling requiring it pay for a roughly $4 million study of mercury contamination in the Penobscot River. This legal twist marks the latest chapter in the seven-year lawsuit brought against Mallinckrodt Inc. by the Maine People's Alliance and the Natural Resources Defense Council. The groups claim that HoltraChem, the former chlorine and chemical manufacturing plant, is responsible for polluting the river estuary.
